Gevalin® is a proprietary extract of Aegle marmelos (Bael) fruit ; used for centuries in traditional Indian medicine ; standardised to gallotannic acid and marmelosin, developed for formulations targeting the gastric-comfort research area.
The published mechanism-of-action file describes two complementary actions: a buffering (antacid-like) effect that balances gastric pH, and a mucosal protective barrier supported by increased mucus secretion.[1] In a 7-day observational case study of ten participants taking 250 mg daily, improvements were reported in symptom scores for acidity, reflux, bloating and bowel regularity.[2]
The literature reports a 42–44% risk of symptomatic ulcer or gastrointestinal bleeding in chronic NSAID users; proton-pump inhibitors deliver strong acid suppression, but questions around their long-term use have driven formulation interest toward naturally sourced supportive ingredients. Aegle marmelos, of the Rutaceae family, bears fruit rich in tannins and coumarin derivatives.
