Bio-optimised berberine · BioSOLVE® technology

Metaberine®: bio-optimised berberine on the BioSOLVE® platform. Significant glucose improvements in a double-blind crossover RCT (n=36, 200 mg); IJCT 2026.

Metaberine®

Berberine is among the most-researched metabolic actives of the past decade, with a broad literature base on glucose balance and lipid profile. The molecule's practical limit is equally clear: it is water-insoluble, poorly absorbed, and subject to P-glycoprotein efflux. Metaberine® was designed to overcome that limit with the BioSOLVE® platform.

The BioSOLVE® matrix renders berberine water-dispersible, delivering approximately 4× bioavailability versus standard market berberine HCl.[1] The same plasma exposure can therefore be achieved at a lower label dose ; meaning smaller dosage units and a wider gastrointestinal tolerance window.

Clinical and Technical Evidence

Berberine's gastrointestinal side-effect profile is dose-dependent; the high doses required to reach effective plasma levels with standard forms (1000–1500 mg/day) strain formulation design. A bioavailability gain changes that equation: equivalent exposure becomes possible at lower doses, reducing tablet size and the need for divided dosing.

The absorption architecture validated for the BioSOLVE® platform in its curcumin application through a human cross-over study (see BioSOLVE Curcumin®) is applied to berberine on the same formulation principle. It is positioned as a reference active for formulations targeting the glucose-balance, lipid-profile and weight-management research areas.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does Metaberine® differ from standard berberine HCl? +

Standard berberine is water-insoluble and its absorption is limited by P-glycoprotein efflux. Metaberine® is made water-dispersible on the BioSOLVE® platform and delivers approximately 4× bioavailability.

What does the lower dose enable? +

Equivalent plasma exposure at a lower label dose: smaller tablets/capsules, single-unit dosing, and a wider gastrointestinal tolerance window.

Which combinations does it work with? +

Compatible with metabolic-support components such as chromium picolinate, alpha-lipoic acid, cinnamon extract and inositol; combination strategy can be planned with our technical team.

What is in the technical file? +

Comparative bioavailability data, specification, stability and CoA template; full disclosure after an NDA.
